Decorations for a Ceremony

Zen-Buddhist Temple, Honshu, Japan (2026)

In the spring of 2026, on Honshu, The Scroll decorated a 200-year-old temple, with its 600-year-old gate for the annual Hokke Senbu-kai ceremony. Throughout the installation, the temple continued to serve as a place of worship.

Here, The Scroll responds to the temple - it passes through the ossuary, and moves through the space to allow for natural movement of visitors. Branches from Japanese black pine act as anchors for the hanging mechanism.
